Providing lovely french food in a cosy, but busy, environment, Rustique is a hidden gem found in the heart of York, a stone’s throw away from the Grand Opera House theatre.

We were deliberately looking for something a little different when we last visited the Grand Opera House in York, and so we took to google. After a short scroll on Google Maps we found Rustique, serving french food in a City Centre Location.

When we arrived, we could tell it was busy, but tucked away upstairs was another floor of diners chatting and drinking the day away.

We were sat in a comfortable spot, looking out onto the patio area. It was a gorgeous day, the chatting of the other diners created a great ambience and the food was the cherry on top.

Opting for french onion soup, because when in France, I felt warm and cosy. The flavour was there, the croutons were amazing and the added chunks of cheese made for a beautifully comforting meal!

My partner chose the snails and enjoyed using the utensils almost as much as he enjoyed his meal. Seeing his face light up while eating, I think it is fair to say he enjoyed them!

We both chose Duck for our main, served with Dauphinoise potatoes and jus, this mean was filling and rich but not overwhelming.

It would have been nice for the meal to come with some assortment of vegetables, just to add some freshness and some life to the meal, but overall very much a comfort food spot.

I would happily go back to this restaurant, and we can’t wait to try what else is on the menu!
