Calling all StageSider’s, welcome back to another review here at StageSideUK. This time we are talking about the fabulous, the filthy and the funniest redhead alive, La Voix. We were invited to see La Voix and Darlington Hippodrome, and I can confirm the rumours are true. While we all found out Joan’s curtains don’t match the drapes, La Voix being the funniest redhead can be easily confirmed within the first ten minutes of the show.
About the show!
Starting with a huge sing and a lot of comedy, La Voix has you hooked in minutes. With some impressive vocals, any song you hear La Voix sing, will be big, bold and beautiful. Not only is La Voix funny, and not only does she sing, but she does some very good impersonations too.
Her Cher and Judy were particularly funny. The whole impression routine had me laughing from the start to the end. A good sign, when you are laughing so hard within the first act. And it didn’t stop there. The show kept on going, getting funnier and livelier and more engaging with every minute. La Voix really does know how to command an audience and how to get everyone engaged and taking part.
Something I learned at a La Voix show is… Noone is safe! Expect to be dancing, singing, waving your arms and being roasted by La Voix herself. If you are prepared for it, you will have an amazing time! Let go, join in and have a night full of fun!
The aesthetics
Visually the show is stunning, with enough special effects, costume changes and rhinestones to dazzle you through the near three hour show. Expect big frocks, bigger hair and even bigger pyrotechnics. You get it all and then some at a La Voix show.
I would also like to personally give April a shout out on becoming the 9th wonder of the world, and Joan and Phil were such good sports. Becoming part of the show and on occasion, letting people into their house (Joan get new wallpaper).
This was a fun, camp night out and I left the theatre feeling energised and a little silly. StageSideUK had a brilliant time at the La Voix show.
Entertainment:
This show goes so much further than just entertaining its audiences. It has you singing, dancing, shouting out, throwing shoes and all sorts. While this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea all of the time, you are sure to have a bit of fun, a bit of daft and a whole lot of laughs when you see La Voix. With that much energy, that much showman – woman ship and all those gorgeous robes under a robe under a robe… La Voix really gives you all that you want. Easily earning the full house, five out of five stars for entertainment value. A show I would happily see again and an act I would love to see again in the future!
Value for money
For around £25 pounds, in our local, you get ALOT for your money. You get comedy, you get singing, you get dancing, you get a full band and a full claire’s shop’s worth of dazzle. You get everything but the kitchen sink, and even then… She even had a mini bar-like area on stage instead. I really think there is something for everyone within this show, whether you’re there for the songs or you’re there for the comedy, you are going to have a great night out, and for a relatively affordable price too! Again I think I have to give La Voix the full five stars for this show!
Accessibility
The show is quite loud, has quite a lot of sensory aspects to it and there is a lot of interaction. This isn’t the show for people with intense sensory sensitivities or those who really hate the idea of interaction, but if you’re willing to give it a go and aren’t affected by sensory overload, then La Voix is a fun night out. Just be prepared for those pyrotechnics and loud drums / belted notes.
Overall
Overall, I had a great night out, lots of fun and I was laughing from start to finish. It was a silly night of escapism and a great excuse to dress up in our ‘finest Primark wares’ and get to our local theatre. La Voix had you in the palm of her hand the whole night and you worked for your ticket there. I felt safe in the circle, but holders of a stalls seat, beware!
If you love having fun and being a bit daft, then don’t hesitate to see the show. If it sounds like your idea of hell, perhaps give it a miss, but you will be missing out.
