Calling all StageSiders, welcome back to another review, albeit quite delayed. This time around we are talking about the Sugababes tour, which stopped off at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle on the 16th April! So settle in, pop on your favourite Sugababes song and lets get into the review!
Now, Sugababes aren’t really a group I have ever seen live or heard of touring, but I was pleasanlty surprised by how many iconic tunes they made! And so when the group were announced to be heading out on tour, it was like a signal to every millennial pop fan across the country: prepare your vocal cords, charge your phones, and dust off your dancing shoes. The group, along with their support acts, hit the stage at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, for a night of hits and a celebration of their musical evolution and powerful female artistry.
But before the main event, the audience was treated to two support acts—each serving up wildly different but equally impressive performances.
First up we were presented with the fantasy alt pop diva, Luna. Can I just start by saying Blind, Alive, The Tower and Personal Torture are absolutely iconic! Give em a listen… fall in love!
Dressed to the nines in fantasy-inspired costuming, Luna emerged like an ethereal warrior. Think flowy draped fabric with metalic corsetting, celestial accessories, and vocals that were absolute perfection! There’s a hypnotic quality to her sound delicate yet punchy, soft yet commanding and the lyrics are really clever! I am not exaggerating when I say I am now obsessed with Luna’s music. Luna’s tracks have made an immediate jump onto my gym playlist. Luna gave the Sugababes a run for their money in terms of stage presence and show quality.
Then came Rose Gray. Again equally brilliant, Rose Gray has a really slick stage presence and a sound that merges saucy and synth. Rose Gray had the crowd dancing before the main act had even taken to the stage. Her set was a seamless blend of utter anthems and full-blown club bangers, songs that would fit in well on both a road trip playlist and a midnight dancefloor. Some true highlights were party people, free and everything changes (but I won’t). BOPS! She lit the place up, and judging by the cheers, she walked away with more than a few new fans.
And then the moment came…
From the moment the Sugababes appeared onstage, Keisha, Mutya, and Siobhán reminded us all exactly why they were, and still are, pop powerhouses. Even just starting behind a curtain on stage for a while, they really did create some iconic visual moments. Drenched in bold visuals and backed by a great live band, they delivered hit after hit. Round Round, Push the Button, and About You Now were sung back by the crowd with in a moment where we all suddenly remembered the iconic hit from our childhoods.
And while the nostalgia was amazing, this wasn’t a night stuck in the past. Newer tracks like Jungle proved that the Sugababes are far from finished, and they’re evolving, pushing boundaries, and bringing fresh sounds to their repertoire.
The show wasn’t just a musical experience. It was peppered with stories, moments of vulnerability, and reflections on their journey as artists and a group. It felt personal, celebratory, and very real and raw and I was so glad I got a ticket!
Value for Money
The tickets for the concert were £33 pounds each, and honestly it was so worth the price. For this price we had 3 concerts, each incredibly talented and bringing so much energy and great music to the stage. I really think, when some artists are charging hundreds, £33 is a great price for the night of music!
Accesibility
The show is of course very loud, concerts tend to be getting louder at the moment but I think that applies across the board. There were moments of flashing lights and some videos that flickered and flashed.
Overall
The show was a hit, it really was a great experience and botht he support acts and the Sugababes were incredible! I really loved every moment and think for the price you really can’t go wrong.
