Calling all StageSiders, welcome back to another review here at StageSideUK. This time around we are talking about a true spectacle of a tribute, to the one and only Coldplay. Entertainers brought Sky Full of Stars to the Darlington Hippodrome on the 9th October. Settle in and lets dive into the review for this show.
Disclaimer: I was gifted a pair of free press tickets in exchange for an honest review of the show.
Entertainers are the “producers, promoters, and creators behind unforgettable theatre and events” including tribute shows, burlesque nights and true crime talks. Entertainers brought their new show Sky Full of Stars to the Darlington Hippodrome and really set a new high standard for themselves. This show was more than just a band playing Coldplay songs, and it was more than a tribute, it was a recreation of a Coldplay concert.
Now lets start with the bits everyone expects from a tribute. The music was truly amazing. It was played well (even with a crowd clapping out of sync) they were tight and played each song with 100% energy. Each band member also had their own persona and brought bundles of energy to the show! The lead guitarist was especially impressive with some great solos, and some really great interactions with the audience. The vocalist was also impressive, embodying Chris Martin’s physicality.
The costuming, and image for the band, was in line with Coldplays but with enough uniqueness to be their own thing.
Another impressive element was the lighting set up, which truly transformed the space into an arena, a night club, a stadium and then back to a theatre again. The stage was flooded with colour, and the projections, lighting and special effects made the show visually interesting.
Whilst a more traditional tribute would stop here, Entertainers know audiences want more. So, they give us more.
Each audience member is given an LED wristband when entering the auditorium, which interacts with the show. During Yellow, the bands glow yellow. During Paradise the bands flash in rainbow colours. This little addition to the show really does transform the show into a concert experience and adds a unique layer to the aesthetics. This is a great example of how one element can really elevate a theatre going experience. The family next to us were having a blast looking at the colours with the children waving their arms and making sure the band saw their wristbands.
This show is truly spectacular, entertaining and a full throttle tour of Coldplays greatest hits!
Accessibility:
This show contains theatrical effects like flashing light, lights directed at the audience, flashing wristbands and confetti (with no bang). The show is loud, without being overwhelming. I would say if lighting is an issue for you, this may be a show that is a bit much, but it was really impressive.
Value for Money:
Tickets for this show average around £30 each, which is about right for the level of spectacle, the immersion and the musical talent. I think the top end tickets are maybe stretching a little (depending on venue) but I am super happy I got to go and I would happily book to go back on its next tour at £30.
Another great tribute on the touring circuit and a truly amazing show. The show is next playing in Preston on the 18th October, followed by Portsmouth on the 23rd October.

Have your say!
