Calling all StageSiders, welcome back to another review here at StageSideUK.This time around we are talking about the fabulous new musical that has taken the Fringe by storm, You’re Fired the Musical. So settle in, and lets get the review started!

Every now and then a new musical bursts onto the scene with such confidence and charisma that you instantly know you’re witnessing the start of something big. You’re Fired – The Musical, written by Cait McPhilemy, is exactly that show: a fiercely funny, gloriously chaotic and musically interesting production that I personally think is about to go global!
The musical score is filled with genuine bops! There is a great mix of songs that you’ll be humming for days afterwards to those more powerful ballad types, ranging from punchy pop numbers, group chorus transitions all the way to full-on ensemble showstoppers. And the lyrics? Sharp, clever and well placed.
The comedy hits just as hard as the music. The script is buzzing with energy, packed with outrageous characters, workplace absurdity and laugh-out-loud punchlines. It’s got that rare ability to be ridiculous without being overwhelmingly immature– think The Office meets The Apprentice, with a dash of the iconic SIX-style sound thrown in for good measure.
The cast throw everything at it, vocally great, thematically clever and wonderfully funny. Every member of the company has their moment, whether belting out a power ballad, delivering a brutal zinger, or full-on committing to a chaotic dance break that brings the house down.
This musical doesn’t follow the typical ‘West End’ or ‘Broadway’ vibe, but it would absolutely fit in perfectly with the likes of Dear Evan Hansen, Be More Chill and SIX. Big high notes, great harmonies, and tightly woven chaos – it’s a perfect blend. There’s a freshness to the whole piece that’s genuinely exciting. It feels young, modern and proudly British without being cliché or following a cookie cutter template for a new musical.
If the reaction from the audience is anything to go by, You’re Fired isn’t just a good night out, it’s a hit waiting to happen. Cait McPhilemy has written something that feels entirely now: bold, bonkers and brilliantly catchy. It’s the kind of show you will want to see again, just to catch the jokes you missed while you were laughing the first time. Plus there is so much scope for improv and ad libs, the show feels so organic!
Value for money
Tickets to this show cost £10 for a concession (student), and for £10 you get one hell of a show! Whilst there aren’t many costume changes or fancy props and set pieces, the show really is a well paced and well crafted theatrical event! For a tenner, you can’t go wrong!
Accesibility
The show contains some shouting, screaming and stage lighting but there are no real triggers for my sensory sensitivity in this show.
