Hola StageSider’s. Welcome back to another Wondering Wednesday. I want to ask a bit of a deeper question, and this doesn’t have to do with anyones personal circumstances. It is all just hypothetical and I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable or like it is an exclusive conversation etc. Also, this isn’t a conversation about theatre pricing in general, that post is coming soon.
If a show you really loved toured to your town… would the price of a ticket put you off? Would you think, it’s only here once in a while lets just do it, or does the sight of a large ticket price put you off completely?
To me, price is a big factor to consider when booking tickets. I know I am fortunate and lucky to be able to afford theatre, but I also don’t want to just throw money at theatre willy nilly. So I prefer to see different, new and maybe abstract, shows in the cheaper seats so I can experience different things. I am not the sort of person who would spend say £280 on one ticket to a west end show, just to see one show. There is nothing wrong with doing that, but for me, I just don’t think it is worth it. Plus nine times out of ten I have to travel to the theatre and some times I have to make a weekend of it as the theatre is just too far away, so before you know it, I have spent £200 on a theatre trip before the tickets.
