Calling all StageSiders, welcome to a new news article here at StageSideUK. This time around we are happy to be sharing a press release, given to us by the folks at Chameleon Music Marketing, regarding the upcoming tour of The Picture of Dorian Gray: A New Musical. So if you are interested in new musicals, the story of Dorian Gray or theatre tours, settle in and find out more!

A musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s timeless tale The Picture of Dorian Gray is set for a major debut tour in 2026.
Starring Kevin Kennedy (Rock of Ages, We Will Rock You, Coronation Street) as Mr Issacs, The Picture of Dorian Gray: A New Musical brings one of literature’s most enduring tales to the stage.

Described as ‘Sweeney Todd meets Jesus Christ Superstar with a dash of Jekyll and Hyde’ this striking new production is a faithful re-telling of Wilde’s classic story as a dark, sung-through theatrical experience, inspired by the grand, operatic musicals of the 1970s and 1980s.

Touring the UK and Ireland, the production introduces audiences to Dorian Gray – a young man blessed with extraordinary beauty, wealth and charm. But when a portrait is painted of him, a single wish binds his fate to the canvas, setting in motion a descent into decadence and moral decay.

While Dorian remains outwardly untouched by time, his portrait becomes the hidden reflection of his true self – ageing, corrupting, and bearing the weight of every choice he makes.
Featuring a powerful original score and classic staging the 13-strong cast bring Victorian London to life in this dramatic new musical which is faithful to the original novel.

Speaking about the production, creator Mark Middlemiss said: “This idea has been with me for over twenty years — it’s a story I never stopped thinking about.
“My aim is to bring The Picture of Dorian Gray to the stage exactly as Wilde wrote it: in its original setting, with its original characters and dialogue, and told through music rather than interpretation.
“It’s been a long journey to get here but seeing it come to life in a musical production has been incredibly rewarding — and I can’t wait for audiences to see and experience it in that form.”
The production has already generated early attention online, with the original soundtrack streaming over 500,000 times across digital platforms ahead of its stage debut.

Lavish, haunting and emotionally charged, The Picture of Dorian Gray: A New Musical offers a striking new way to experience Wilde’s iconic tale – where beauty fades, but consequence never does.
