Calling all you StageSideUK Queenz! Are you ready to death drop, tongue pop and sashay your way through life? If not, what do you mean!? Have you not seen the feel-good experience, that is Queenz – The Show With Balls?
We got to see Queens at the Billingham Forum Theatre on the 24th of September, and wow wow WOW. This show is full of fun, flair and fabulousness! Featuring some classic Diva anthems, some amazing musical theatre references, some great dancing and brilliant banter, this show really is amazing!
Expecting some lip syncing, and some obscure songs, this show couldn’t be further from our expectations. This show is packed with some amazing tunes and even more energy. Each of the queens brought something unique and valuable to the show. Advertised as a five piece group, the four queens we got to see were all different, talented and incredible in their own right!
The bass was pumping, the music was loud, the lights were turned all the way up and the heels were high, this show gives you everything you could want from a drag show, and then some killer vocals. One thing I did want to see, some more dancing. There was little dancing in the show, which meant that a lot of the action was done vocally and with their banter. Whilst there were some amazing costumes to look at, there wasn’t much else happening on the stage. Not like you needed it, but the added aesthetics would have added a lot of extra value to the show.
Now onto the ratings!
Entertainment:
This show is packed with bouncing tunes, beautiful queens and some amazing vocals. It was great to see such an energetic show, with brilliant banter! Visually there was enough to see, but some added dancing, spectacular dance moves or something would be a bit more engaging. And as Billie Eyelash rightly said, there is more to drag than tricks and death drops, but the show could have had some more spectacle built into it to have us visually stimulated, instead of listening to stunning vocals, with little to watch all night. But honestly that is me struggling to find something that needed attention, and I was quite happy with the show I saw and the entertainment it provided. I was laughing, smiling and singing along all night! A full five stars, you had me hooked and I never wanted it to end!
Value for money
I was invited to see the show by Chameleon and we want to say a huge thank you to them for sending us.
The show is priced quite fairly. With tickets on future tour dates priced at around £26 pounds for a clear view seat, this show is quite competitively priced and you get aot for your money. If it was just a lip sync, I don’t think it would have been worth the £26. I used to pay around that for drag shows in large venues, but realised that really, you can’t see anything and theres no interaction or live aspect, other than existing in the space. But with the live vocals, costume changes, banter and conversations, this show is easily worth £26 and more. A full five stars again for the value for money, I would happily pay this to see the show again in the future.
Accessibility
This show was VERY loud from the beginning and throughout. By the second half, everything was a bit quieter, but I think that was because I had gotten used to the volume. Usually I would have to leave a show that loud but the vocals and energy had me hooked and I enjoyed every minute of it!
Overall
I can see why this show gets five star reviews, and why it will be getting a five star review from us at StageSideUK. We loved this show, it was fun, camp, fabulous and the talent on that stage is incredible! For £26 you really can’t go wrong. I would happily see this show again on several stops, and still have a new experience, the banter was amazing and so personal. A brilliant show, a well deserved five star review!
