Calling all StageSiders, welcome back to another review here at StageSideUK. This time we are stepping into the world of Cluedo 2 at Darlington Hippodrome.

From the very first line of the preshow announcement, it’s safe to say that the audience was in for a night of cunning wit, rapid twists, and theatrical mayhem. From the outset, this production made it clear that it wasn’t just another classic whodunnit; it was a farce of murder and mystery with the dial turned all the way up. The comedy was spot on. The thrill had me on the edge of my seat. The twists and turns had me dizzy in the best ways.
The pacing was slick from the word go. The show truly came into its own in the second half. Once the first body hit the floor, there was no stopping the onslaught of cleverly staged “accidents,” each more hilarious and unexpected than the last. The show thrives on its own momentum, with a sense of urgency that pulled the audience in and refused to let go.
Special mention must go to the great use of costume and set design. They didn’t just complement the action; they brought it to life, wrapping the stage in a genuine air of mystery. With hidden passages, nooks and crannies, and boxes galore, the whole stage was full of potential ins and outs for the murderer. From dark corners to hidden doors, every element served the chaos of the plot while keeping us guessing.

Cluedo 2 is a great stand alone production and does not require audiences to have seen Cluedo to be kept in the loop. This is a stand alone show and so if you havent seen Cluedo 1, you can still enjoy Cluedo 2. If you have your tickets for Cluedo 2, you are in for a sharp and entertaining ride that leaves you grinning, even as the body count rises. Fast-paced, witty, and polished, this is a show that doesn’t hold back on fun – or fatalities!
The Downsides!
I will say, as one downside, the show is predictable and anyone who has a keen eye will be able to make their accusations before the second half. The clues all stack against one person and so even from the very first hint, myself and everyone around me knew who was doing what. Perhaps this is down to the book writting or down to the acting, but some lines were a bit of a give away, but are we really going to try to guess who it is?
The show is also marketed as written for ages 8-80 but I do think the themes and some of the lines are outdated, a bit close to the bone and would not be appropriate for an 8 year old.
