Calling all StageSiders, welcome back to another review here at StageSideUK. This time around I will be talking about West End Tenors which took to the stage at the Darlington Hippodrome on the 4th February. Settle in, the review is about to begin!

I need to start off by saying I was delighted to experience the opening night of the 2026 tour from the West End Tenors. It was a polished and confident start to the year for the group!
Opening a tour always carries a certain sense of anticipation, and the West End Tenors rose to the occasion. Performing in front of their first audience of 2026, the group delivered a show that felt well-paced and thoroughly engaging. There was no sense of hesitation, guessing or being lost on stage, just four performers stepping onto the stage with confidence, ready to bring their signature sound to life.
Vocally, the group are nothing short of exceptional. Their harmonies are tight, their tone is rich, and each performer brings their own distinct sound while blending in as an ensemble. What makes this show work particularly well is its balance. There’s enough visual presentation to ensure the performance feels like a theatrical experience, rather than simply listening to a recording, but it never distracts from the true focus, the voices.
One of the evening’s most heartwarming moments came when the quartet welcomed a troupe of young performers from Stagecoach Darlington. Inviting local performers on stage added a genuine sense of community to the evening and created a special moment for both the audience and the young singers themselves. Their performances, featuring songs from well-loved musicals, were delivered with confidence and joy, and it was wonderful to see emerging talent sharing the stage with seasoned professionals. It’s always refreshing to see touring productions actively engaging with the next generation of performers, and this moment added real warmth to the show.
The structure of the set list keeps the evening moving at a strong pace, with thoughtful mixes and arrangements that showcase both individual voices and the power of the group. A particularly enjoyable themed mix brought variety and energy, giving the show dynamic contrast and keeping the audience fully engaged throughout.
That said, the song selection does feel slightly weighted towards a more mature audience. While the classics are delivered beautifully, the show would benefit from including more material from newer or more contemporary musicals in my opinion. With modern musical theatre offering such a rich catalogue of powerful songs, I was a bit confused as to why we stuck to the classics (Les Mis, Sunset Blvd, etc). A broader range of contemporary selections would help balance the show a little more and widen its appeal, particularly for younger theatregoers.
Overall, though, the West End Tenors delivered a strong and enjoyable opening night. The pacing works well, the vocals are outstanding, and the evening was thoroughly enjoyable. It’s a show built on talent, professionalism and a clear love of classical musical theatre.
Accessibility
The show features amplified live vocals, recorded tracks and theatrical lighting throughout, but nothing that feels overwhelming or distracting. There isn’t much interaction other than clapping along, and the musical moments didn’t ever dip into overwhelm for me.
Value for Money
With some truly great vocal performances and the added bonus of community involvement, the show offers good value for money. Tickets were priced around £25 per person and I think that is fair for the show. It’s an enjoyable evening that showcases the best of musical theatre classics.
