Calling all StageSiders, welcome back to another article here at StageSideUK. This time around we are shoning a spotlight on a local theatre for us at StageSideUK. The Darlington Hippodrome is a local gem of a theatre and continues to host great touring shows and companies. Its 2025 season promises to be a thrilling showcase of gripping drama, literary classics and interactive comedy — all wrapped up in one awesome blend of touring theatre.

Whether you’re drawn to classical plays, period storytelling, edge-of-your-seat suspense, heart pumping musical theatre or something that breaks the fourth wall entirely, this new season has something to spark every theatre lover’s interest. Here’s a look at the standout productions making their way to Darlington in 2025…


Spitfire Girls

29th – 31st May 2025
Spitfire Girls is inspired by the extraordinary true stories of the women who dared to fly during WWII and the incredible bond that tied them together. Funny and heart-warming, this is an untold story of strength, courage and loss. But above all else, hope.


Murder, She Didn’t Write

3rd June 2025
Don your deerstalker, grab your magnifying glass and get your ‘finger of suspicion’ at the ready because Edinburgh Fringe favourites, Degrees of Error, are bringing back their multiple sell-out show for your sleuthing pleasure. They’ll create a classic murder mystery on-the-spot in this ingenious improvised comedy. You, the audience, become the author as the cast act out your very own Agatha Christie-inspired masterpiece live on stage. At each show this extraordinarily talented company use audience suggestions to create a unique, original and extremely comical murder mystery just for you. All you have to do… is solve it!


The Haunting of Blaine Manor

21st – 23rd August 2025
Renowned American parapsychologist Doctor Roy Earle, famous for discrediting hauntings and exposing fake mediums, is invited to attend a seance in Blaine Manor, said to be the most haunted building in England. However, Earle’s arrival awakes something horrific within the manor’s walls. As a raging storm closes them off from the outside world, Earle and his companions find that what is waiting within the manor is not nearly as horrific as what has entered with them.


The Shawshank Redemption

9th – 13th September 2025
Andy strikes up an unlikely friendship with the prison fixer Red, and things start to take a slight turn for the better. However, when Warden Stammas decides to bully Andy into subservience and exploit his talents for accountancy, a desperate plan is quietly hatched… Based on Stephen King’s 1982 novella, this thrilling stage production examines friendship and hope behind the claustrophobic bars of a maximum-security facility. The 1994 feature film was nominated for seven Academy Awards.


Little Women

30th September – 4th October 2025
Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women was an immediate critical and commercial success. The book was inspired by Alcott’s experiences growing up and is one of the best loved novels of all time. Experience the enduring journey of the March sisters – tomboy Jo, beautiful Meg, sensitive Beth, and spoilt Amy, as they as they navigate the challenges of the Civil War era, forging unbreakable bonds of love and family. Step into the world of sisterhood, courage, ambition and follow them as they progress into womanhood.


The Signalman

4th – 8th November 2025
Middle Ground Theatre Company Ltd is delighted to announce a new extended adaptation of their hugely successful production of Charles Dickens’ nerve-tingling masterpiece The Signalman. Set in 1880, this is the exquisitely unnerving tale of a tormented signalman who is haunted by visions of impending disaster on his isolated stretch of line. Can a well meaning traveller, who chances upon the lonely signal box while out walking, calm the man’s fears before he spirals into self destruction.


There are a whole range of other shows including tribute nights, concerts, stand up comedy and of course the classic christmas panto. If you are a Darlington Local, or maybe youre not too far away, take a look at what the Darlington Hippodrome has to offer. 2025 is shaping up to be a stellar year of live performance in the North East.
