Calling all StageSiders, welcome back to another review here at StageSideUK. This time around we are talking about Mercury – the Ultimate Queen Tribute, which we were sent to see by Chameleon Music Marketing. We were gifted two tickets in exchange for an honest review of the show.
This show is a live and colourful tribute to Queen and the vocals of Freddie Mercury. Combining amazing live music, impressive vocals and some awesome special effects, Mercury really does deliver that Freddie Mercury / Queen concert vibe, in a local theatre!
The show starts off with a bang, litterally, using pyro technics, lighting and the amazing band to really kick the show off the right way. Blasting through some of Queens greatest hits, the show builds momentum and then keeps on going!
By the time you reach the interval, you have danced, sang and clapped along to an array of rock and roll / pop numbers. But it doesn’t stop there, the second half is full of many more hits, moving moments and impressive costume changes.
Going into this, I was a bit curious as to how I was going to react, as I am not the biggest fan of Queen. However, I knew more songs that I thought I did, and Joseph Lee Jackson’s energy and commitment to the role of Freddie was so impressive to watch!

The band, consisiting of Joseph Lee Jackson as Freddie Mercury, Pat Coleman as Roger Taylor, Daniel Gilson as John Deacon, Lee Harvey as Spike Edney and Glen Scrimshaw as Brian May were amazing! They had the whole audience going (radio) Gaga! [I couldn’t help myself].
Honestly, there was not one flaw, fault, foul or fumble throughout the show. Each note was hit, each pose was struck and each sing along was sang along.
Now onto the ratings!
Entertainment:
The show takes regional audiences on a journey, to see the late Freddie Mercury(‘s tribute) in concert. The whole show was full of impressive elements. Impressive vocals, costumes, special effects, music, dancing and the atmosphere was amazing! We really were the champions for the night, and Mercury rocked us… all night long.
Value for money
The show is well worth the money, providing audiences with alot of visuals, music, banter, interaction and costumes. You get to hear all the greatest hits, with the greatest looks and you get to take part. The average price for the event is around £26 and I think that it is fair, and on par with other tributes, but Mercury gives you a whole lot more than a tribute show does.
Accessibility
This show is on the inaccessible side, with loud sounds, live music, interaction, participation, pyro technics, loud bangs and generally a ‘rock’ vibe. Some may find this inaccesible, but once I knew that I was in fo pyros etc, I was fine with it and they were well disguised within the music.
Overall
If you are looking for the Ultimate Queen Tribute…. look no further than Mercury. The best Queen tribute I have seen to date, and one of the best tributes I have seen this year. The showmanship, enthusiasm and energy were all amazing, and had the audience hooked from the word go. Are you expecting anything lower than 5 StageSide Stars? really?
