Waitress the Musical

The cast of Waitress the Musical serves me up some pie at Sunderland Empire, and it is HOT! Welcome back to another review StageSider’s and as you can tell this one is going to be a scorcher.

Where to start with this utterly amazing show? Perhaps with the safety curtain that made me hungry? Every detail in this show is planned to have such a huge effect and everything works as it should.

The music, the set, the costumes are all just… perfect. There were no issues, errors, questionable moments or slip ups. This show ran so smooth, I was almost waiting for an issue… and then it didn’t happen.

The Stars of the show!

Lucie Jones’ (Jenna) voice, throughout, was just incredible. The harmonies, the solos, the acting… it was all incredible.

Matt Willis (Doctor Pomatter) was brilliant in this role. Perfectly funny, touching, strong and yet well balanced. There is nothing negative to say, other than… save me some of that pie!

Sandra Marvin (Becky) was a complete powerhouse. Comedy, the voice, the improv… everything you needed, Sandra was more than happy to serve it up, and ask if you want fries with that.

Evelyn Hoskins (Dawn), was the perfect mix of weird and yet not annoying. A brilliant character and an excellent job on the character work.

Now this, is what baking can do!

Each and every actor, performer, crew, lighting and sound operator in this show did an amazing job. This is an example of when a cast pulls together and just gets the thing done right. If I had to pick one fault, it would be one that I would echo for almost every show I have seen recently, the diction of musicals seems to be overlooked alot recently. So maybe a tighter diction and all would be perfect.

The Rating!

I give this show a perfect five out of five stars. There was little (almost nothing) to fault with this show. From its gorgeous songs, to its incredible characters and the cast who clearly put so much into the show every time it is performed. And a huge shout out to the band who performed for an extra minute or two at the end, while everyone else was walking out and I was sat, glued to them.

Review

Honestly an amazing show and I have to say I was really really impressed and I would happily place this show in my TOP 5 Musicals I have seen!
