Welcome back to StageSideUK and to another Favourite Friday. This time I want to know, what is your favourite Sport Based show? The only sport based show I have seen is Gypsy Queen. “‘Gypsy Queen’ is an unconventional love story between two fighters who discover the greatest challenge lies outside the ring, Written by Rob Ward” (HopeMillTheatre). This show is one of my favourite plays, following King Lear and followed by Hamlet.
It was equally touching, impressive acting wise and a brilliant evening of entertainment. This was one of the first plays I had seen where someone being gay wasn’t a strategic move to sell more tickets and actually discussed the LGBTQ+ community and possible issues faced. I have seen shows with gay characters before this point, but they were either massively offensive or just a stab in the dark at getting more ticket sales. Now this isn’t me saying it was the first one to do it, it was just the first I had seen.
So on this Favourite Friday, let me know, what is your favourite sports based show? Let me know in the comments section and lets get a chat going.

Gypsy Queen was incredible!
It is still one of my favourite plays ever, after King Lear of course. A hidden gem for sure
