Calling all StageSider’s! Welcome back to another discussion post here on StageSideUK. Today I thought we would discuss the RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 3 Meet the Queens episode.

After a five month gap, I was over the moon to hear that the Meet the Queens episode for Season Three of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK was live over on BBC iPlayer. Lets take a look at the videos and have a bit of a discussion, shall we?
Kitty Scott-Claus
First up, we have Kitty Scott-Claus. Can we just take a minute to appreciate the name. This one had me Kitty Scott-Claus is a ‘Busty, Blonde and Bubbly’ queen from Birmingham. Bringing personality, fun and the love of sandwiches to the show, I am already looking forward to the bundle of energy, that is Kitty!
Kitty seems rather sure that she will win Drag Race UK. Of course many have said this in the past, but I think Kitty is one to keep our eyes on. From her meet the queens look, to her impressions and energy, I think she has already shown us a glimpse of what is to come. Her impression of a felt tip pen had me in stitches of laughter. I’m sold… crown her already!
Charity Kase
Presenting a “creative mash up of Manchester and London” drag aesthetics and cultures, Charity Kase clearly isn’t shy of getting those creative juices flowing. The “Scary, Hairy and total fairy” drag queen has already made me laugh, in a short meet the queens video. Luckily the puns finished after the first 30 seconds, or I would have said this Drag-on definitely Dragged… on. Charity states she wants to bring ‘Colour to this grey world we live in’, and to be honest, I think we need it. Just looking at her meet the queen’s look, I am excited to see how many crystals she can hot glue to her garments, and how much glitter will be on those lids. Is Charity hiding behind these “characters of power”, or is she using them to climb to the top? I can already hear Michelle asking to see who the real Charity Kase is (not to mention losing the green), but if i’m being honest… I live for a dress up queen. Similar to Nina Bo’nina Brown, from season nine of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Charity Kase’s meet the queen look uses crafting materials to create a whole new silhouette.
Scarlett Harlett
Next up we have Scarlett Harlett, the queen of the East End. Scarlett’s introduction is… well… Different. With a tagline, slogan and character traits already pointed out, by herself, I think she knows how the game is played. This seems to be a queen who is here, after watching many seasons of the show, and who thinks they have worked out the algorithm. But will the show pan out as usual?
Scarlett seems to be the actor of the group, with a list of acting credits. But Scarlett isn’t one to brag. She also gave us an insight into her drag style, and what to expect from her usual show.
When asked why she should win, Scarlett said “I think I should be the UK’s next Drag Race superstar because I’m real. I don’t think there has been anyone on this show that has been like me before.” Perhaps this is just the edit, but this makes Scarlett seem quite ego driven. Hopefully we won’t have another PhiPhi moment (flashback to Season 4).
Vanity Milan
Vanity Milan is a South London queen serving us “Ratchet” pageant drag. Self described as “Sophisticated, sexy and savage”, I am excited to see how Vanity performs on the show. Even just looking at her meet the queens look, I can see how she has gone from 0-100… real quick. Promising performances full of “flavour”, Vanity is another contestant to keep our eyes on. Will she be a lip syncing assassin, or will she be giving us all the drama we are craving?
Choriza May
Choriza is a loud and colourful Geordie queen, originally from Valencia. I am already getting the impression that she is out to fight, in a friendly competitive way, and won’t stop until she has that crown. Strap yourselves in, because Choriza is preparing us for reveals, and I hope lots of them. Yes I love a reveal, who doesn’t. With passion, creativity and some dodgy dancing lined up, I think Choriza will be giving the other girls a run for their money.
Krystal Versace
This 19 year old queen from Kent is a “full package” queen who can “perform, act and turn the look”. Hopefully Krystal won’t actually be breaking any bones on the show, but is making everyone aware that she is not here to play games. From her Meet the queens look I am getting fashion queen from Krystal and I am loving this look. If this is just an introduction to her, then I am looking forward to seeing what else she has in store. With handfuls of Opa energy, I think Krystal is going to be a barrel of laughs.
Victoria Scone
Victoria Scone is “Cardiff’s camp, cabaret, disco diva [Honk]”. Coming into the competition as an AFAB queen, which I didn’t know was a thing until Victoria explained it, she has made herstory. Being the first AFAB, assigned female at birth, she is here to show people that drag is for everyone, and what a good idea. Feeling like she can get away with anything in drag, Victoria Scone may be getting herself into some rather tense moments this season. Hopefully this desire to do as she pleases won’t become a villainous plot point for the diva loving queen. A professionally trained actor, singer and dancer, Victoria Scone is yet another well rounded queen (in every sense of the word).
Elektra Fence
What did she just call me? What is a cocker? Elektra is the Lisa Simpson of drag. Yet another queen coming from London (originally Burnley), Elektra is another well rounded queen. Elektra seems to be a rather inspirational queen, giving off welcoming and warm vibes, as well as a little bit of a wild child. I can’t wait to see this dance combo she is telling us we may get to see. Bring on the leaping splits!
Ella Vaday
This drag BEAST from Dagenham East is yet another professional singer, dancer and actor. There has to be a battle of the voices this season. Being in a mixture of West End shows, Ella is one to watch for the inevitable acting and singing challenges. Appointing herself as the ‘trade of the season’, Ella seems to know she looks good. Hopefully we see some more artistic or avant garde looks from her, as well as the good old look queen.
Anubis
Another 19 year old queen, this time from Brighton, is a glamorous god(ess?) of the drag afterlife. Dr Seuss meets nan, Anubis brings the best of both. I guess I do see a little grinch in her meet the queens look, or is that Nan’s looks? Setting herself apart from the “Carbon copy queen’s, Anubis bares her tentacles [not a euphemism] and her quirky style to bring a bit of individuality to the mainstage.
River Medway
River Medway, a 22 year old queen from Kent, brings camp to the season. With her surface level drag, I can tell she will be bringing versatile drag to the competition. A singing and dancing queen, River joins the list of musically artistic queens. With mention of a rusical, may we be in for an all-star (not drag race all stars) west end spin off? With so many queens being in musicals or being musically trained, this would be an awesome challenge for the season.
Veronica Green
Returning for season 3, Veronica Green is back and looking quite different, compared to her season 2 meet the queens. Not calling this a comeback, or a second chance, Veronica Green is back after sadly sashaying away after contracting Covid-19 during her season. This time round, Veronica seems full of confidence and she looks ready to fight for the crown. Maybe the extra year is all Veronica needed. Ru often talks about letting girls on when they are ready, and boy is Veronica ready now.
Coming Soon!
Coming this September, to BBC three, Drag Race UK season 3 looks like it is going to be an interesting season indeed. With all this talent, it is hard to pick a favourite, but I am excited to see what comes of this bend of beauties. Season three, I’m ready for you.
